Older History
The rear garden of 4 Woodlands Park Road was built around the Middleton Oak, which is now gone, but an oak tree nearby possibly grew from one of its acorns.
1911
The first census recording the houses was taken in 1911, so these were probably the first tenants of the house.
- David William Glass, head, 30, secretary to limited society, born Whitehaven in Cumberland.
- Mary Bertha Glass, wife , 28, ---, born Birmingham.
- Mary Willison Glass, dau , 3, ---, born Kings Norton.
- George Talliss, father-in-law , 68, retired bricklayer, born Warwick.
- Mary Talliss, mother-in-law , 66, ---, born [Chirk] in Denbeighshire.
- William Evans Smith, nephew , 8, ---, born Bournville.
David Glass originally trained as a surveyor, and was the first secretary of Bournville Tenants, and also designed two pairs of houses on Woodlands Park Road, the only houses not designed by William Alexander Harvey.
Glass's father-in-law, George Tallis, was a bricklayer, so it is likely that he was involved in the actual building work on the estate.
David Glass moved out of number 4 sometime after 1912, but the Tallis family remained in the house until at least the mid 1960s, and their descendants still live on the estate.
