House by House: 18 Kingsley Road

1911
The first census recording the houses was taken in 1911, so these were probably the first tenants of the house.

  • Thomas Henry Percy Blanchard, head, 28, piano tuner and repairer, born Walsall. 
  • Elsie Mary Blanchard, wife, 31, ---, born Handsworth. nee Pane
  • Daphne Millicent Blanchard, dau, 2, ---, born Kings Norton. 


1918
On the 1918 absent voters list, the following usual resident of 18 Kingsley Road was:
Thomas Percy Henry Blanchard* (228452 Gnr, 17th Division, RFA). (*should be Henry Percy). Thomas survived the war.


Elsie Mary Blanchard, or Mrs. Blanchard as she was known to the local children, was a school mistress at the local school at Woodlands Park Hall until at least the 1940s. She worked at the school with her younger sister, Miss. Pane (Mabel Lizzie). The rest of the Pane family, including Miss. Pane, lived nearby at 34 Kingsley Road. The Blanchard family lived at 18 Kingsley Road until about 1957.
